Continuing Education

NCDA promotes and supports professional education, preparation, and credentialing for the effective provision of career development programs and services including academic credentials (e.g., MA, PhD), state licensure (LPC), certifications and ongoing professional development through conferences, courses, seminars, workshops, supervised practice, internships, presentations, and other training opportunities.

Many in our field are required to pursue continuing education, particularly credential holders (such as the NCDA credentials or the GCDF), training instructors (such as NCDA's Facilitating Career Development training), or professional coaches. This page will provide essential continuing education information for all these areas and be sure to view all the links under Professional Development for more CEs.

The NCDA Continuing Education Manual

In particular, NCDA offers diverse opportunities in support of the NCDA Credentials. The approved continuing education is detailed in the Credentialing Commission's Continuing Education Manual.

Other Approvals

NCDA is an NBCC-Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP) and may offer NBCC-approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements. Sessions for which NBCC-approved clock hours will be awarded are identified in each program booklet. The ACEP is solely responsible for all aspects of the program. NCDA hosts three NBCC-approved events each year: the annual conference and two regional institutes (CPI).  All other professional development (webinars, state division meetings, etc.) are not NBCC approved, however, they are approved for NCDA related continuing education for those holding NCDA credentials (see the Manual).

Directory of Select Providers

The NCDA Directory of Select Continuing Education Providers can be used as a guide to choosing training opportunities and obtaining contact hours. Browse the listings of credentialed providers who applied and were approved for inclusion.

Continuing Education Records/Log

NCDA will only log NCDA sponsored events for attendees. See below how to obtain your log history. You must record any approved activities that you attended in this CE Log for your own records. You will need to keep this form updated in case you are randomly selected for an audit as a NCDA credential holder. You must maintain proper documentation in your files (hard copies or scanned copies of certificates, agendas, letters, etc.) in the event of an audit of CE contact hours. If you are an NCDA member, your CE contact hours from NCDA conferences, career practitioner institutes or webinars (i.e., ONLY NCDA sponsored events) will be documented for you and available when you login to your NCDA member account (see below for obtaining credit).
